This422 foot long WW II Liberty Ship was namedin his honor. The vessel
was delivered on October13, 1942 by thePermanente Metals Corp. in
Richmond, CA.The cover honors thefamous inventorwho perfected the grain
harvesting machine pulled by horses. He was born in 1809 in Virginia
and followed up the work of his father in development of the mechanical reeper.
He fought several harvester patent lawsuits and his company became the
International Harvester Co. He died in 1884 and was reportedly worth $11 million
