The Early Choice, A Book For Daughters. By the late W.K. Tweedie. Hardback, Published by Thomas Nelson and Sons, London, Edinburgh and New York. This Book is undated but there were editions from 1855 to 1904 and I would put this book as being from the late 1800s. It is unusual in that it is from the Girls’ Select Library series and I can find no other. Another title from this Series is dated 1893 and my book looks to be from around the 1890s. This was a moral guide for young women, drawing on the example of contemporary women and women from history such as Maria Gaetana Agnesi, Nora Bridgman, Olympia Fulvia Morata, Annie MacDonald, Mrs. Fry, etc. The women featured are taken from all over the world, from different times and from different cultures. The Preface explains that in this Edition, four new chapters appear and to a large extent the Work has been rewritten. The intention was to teach young women moral values and to be careful of their conduct.
There are 340 pages, plus 3 pages of advertisements for the publishers. All pages are in Excellent Condition. There are some faint age spots and the odd slight smudge throughout. The two title pages have more extensive age spotting, as does the tissue guard that covers the first title page. This tissue guard has a cartoon drawn on it in pencil where a previous owner has tried to trace the image from the first title page. A plain jagged piece of paper has been affixed inside the front cover, probably to cover a name plate. The inside of the front and back covers and the first page at the front have a detailed brown swirly design - this page is missing from the back. The Blue Cover has some rubbing to the corners and at the top and bottom of the spine. The spine has darkened and the blue colour on the front and back has darkened slightly around the edges. There is some slight shelf wear to the edges and a light scratch on the back cover. There is a one-inch slit to the cloth at the top of the spine but the book itself is well bound. Dimensions: 5.25 x 7.5 x 1.5 ins.
From a clean, non-smoking and pet-free household.

Please use the See Other Items Link above right, where you will find other items covering all sorts of interests and hobbies and possibly save on the combined cost of postage. I go into a lot of detail about condition and people are often surprised at how good an item is because I have over-emphasised any minor blemishes.

Items will be sent promptly on receipt of cleared payment, preferably through Paypal. Cheques drawn on a U.K. bank are acceptable but please use the Pay Button in the winning email and select Cheque so that I know to expect it. Buyers NOT in the United Kingdom to pay through Paypal only, either by Credit Card or by Paypal Account. I do not charge extra for Paypal payments.

Postage charged is the actual cost of postage of estimated packed weight – see first paragraph. If you buy more than one item, you may make savings on postage depending on the weight and type of item. I always keep a separate Royal Mail Receipt for each item sent.

Please place this on your Watch List and keep reviewing it against your maximum offer. Thank you for looking at this and good luck with offerding.
