On offer is a ca.1900 Kalliope music box with four bells, playing seven-inch discs. The comb is intact, with no missing teeth. The wooden case measures about 10 inches wide by 5 inches tall by 9 inches deep. The top of the case has a thin crack at the middle right.This music box comes with a key and ten discs.
The mechanism is in working condition and will play after being wound. However, though I am not an expert in music boxes, it is clear to me that the mechanism needs to be serviced. The mechanism does not seem to play for as long as it should on one wind, and the striking of the bells seems to be improperly synchronized. Thus I would recommend that anyone contemplating buying this box be prepared to work on it himself or have someone service it.
