Carl Zeiss 75mm f4.5 BIOGON -rare low-light speed lens for 4x5, modern Copal 75:
$875.00

Here is a later 75 Biogon. If you\'ve come this far you probably already familiar with this lens. It was based on a 1930s design by Bertele of Zeiss-Dresden. In the 1950s Zeiss updated the design and in so doing ushered in super wide-angle lenses. One of these lenses was the 75 Biogon for Linhof. The USAF soon recognized that the super wide coverage and outstanding resolution were just what they needed in their aerial reconnaissance cameras, so the exact same lens was manufactured for their KB-18 and other cameras, and growth versions used even larger Biogon-design lenses like the Hycon. The Biogon was known for outstanding resolution and very low distortion; it also had much less light fall-off than other, later super wide angle designs - this is why it is such a desired lens even today. This is a later model in a modern all-black Copal shutter. Cosmetics are overall excellent, but this example exhibits the tapering of the anodizing on the rear barrel that some lenses experienced. The glass is near-pristine, with a few *very* faint marks on the rear glass that are too faint to photograph. Deep purple coatings are gorgeous.Be aware that some versions of the 75 Biogon were made such that the shutter was pretty much integral to the lens body and couldn\'t be removed for service or repair. This is not the case here; the late, all black Copal 1 can be unscrewed like any other shutter as needed. Aperture turns freely with no oil. Shutter is snappy on all speeds and measured speeds are excellent, please see pic of time sheet (1/400 is slow, no surprise there). Comes with two caps and mounting ring. Please give this a good home :-)I\'m also listing a few other rare, classic lenses that I don\'t use anymore, including a several Gold Dot Dagors and a process Dagor or two (with tremendous coverage).
