Item: Cased Edwardian 1906 English Antique Sterling ApostleSpoons & Tongs Joseph Rogers . A verynice example of a Cased Set of six English Edwardian Sterling Silver ApostleSpoons and tongs made by JosephRogers of Sheffield. The spoons and tongs have a full set ofEnglish sterling Silver hallmarks and has a highly polished silver finish inits entirety and has the benefit of being un-monogrammed and free frompersonalisation. To the top wesee St Peter standing upon a plinth.Column Neck leading down to an elongated teardrop bowl. The apostle set aremade of a nice quality silver finishing. The case is of a brown leatheretteouter finishing with gold border, blue silk padding to roof and Royal Bluevelvet base to bottom inside, For the most part, these spoons were madeindividually for wealthy grandparents ofthe time, who would buy one spoon representing a babies \"apostle\" andwould be their Christening present. These spoons would be used only by thatperson and it would be kept for life. The phrase \"to be born with a silver spoon\" stems from thistradition. I have seen that peopleare now engraving names onto the back of the spoon for newborn, Christeningsand Communion Presents, thisexample has NO engravings or monograms. Would make a superb gift.
