Century S-3 16\" Model 142 brass blade fan, c.1920 in very good and fully operating condition.
This is an unrestored, original condition fan with all 5 speeds working as they should. The fan starts well and runs smoothly and there is a noticeable speed difference between each of the 5 speeds. A rarely seen enclosed motor non-oscillating model with the old cast iron motor and stamped steel base. There is no pot metal on this one and it is the last of the 5-speed Centurys.
Cosmetically this fan is very good to excellent with shiny original black Japan finish, all speed numbers visible on the base, and an excellent solid brass blade with no bends, nicks, cracks or other problems. The finish has not been detailed or polished. The guard is wrapped steel and has one wire broken at the rear ring which could be repaired pretty easily alongwith a the connector sleeve on thebottom of the front ring. The wiring is old but looks serviceable.
20-1/2\" high, 17-3/4\" wide, 8-1/2\" deep and weighs 21 pounds.
I personally pack my fans so they will be well protected in transit. Using a new box with good padding and packing tightly, I have never had a fan damaged and have packed and shipped close to 100 fans.
