Ceramic Vintage / Antique Tile Tray Abercrombie & Fitch Rare & Unusual:

This is one of the most unusual items I\'ve put in my selling history.
I\'m selling the ceramic tray / dish / tray seen in my pictures.
The tray I\'m selling measures just under 7\" in diameter. The tray is made of a typical brown clay found here in the states. The brown clay defines the underside of the tray. The topside outer perimeter of the tray is made of red tiles. The tiles look marbleized, withstreaks of white running through them. The tiles tiles may actually be stone, but I don\'t know for sure. The inside of the tray is comprised of 6 rows of tiles, the outer three rows are white, and the inner most 3rows are a dirty yellow / gold color. The tiles are all held in place with a white clay (or is it grout?).
In the center is a single ski (as in snow ski) made of the same red marble like tile that surrounds the outside edge.
The ski has a binding that is attached to the ski and is surrounded by black...stone? . Can\'t tell if the black is painted or made of black stone.
So here\' where it getsinteresting. There is a post it on the bottom of the dish that reads:
\" Purchased at Abercrombie & Fitch on Fifth Ave. NYC. Early 1950\'s by dad and me.\"Note the ski - Don\'t sell I\'dkeep it.\"
Abercrombie was originally an outdoor sportsclothing retailerThey were deeply tied to athletic wear. They also actively soldhousehold decorative items that were macho. This \"ski\" ashtray is precisely the kind of item they might have sold as it was both decorative, sports oriented and another revenue stream.
I\'ve been unable to find any evidence that Abercrombie manufactured these or sold these trays. However, The post it has me believing that there is more to the story than I thought, and that this could be an exceptionally rare collectible. I welcome all comments, please share yourknowledge.
