Chaim Gross \"Doves of Peace\" Vietnam Era Enamel-on-Metal Etching, Original:
$200.00

\"Doves of Peace\" by Jewish Artist Chaim Gross (1904-1991) is a very good example of late 1960\'s, early 1970\'s Pop Art, made famous by Andy Warhol and the like. Most likely it was created by the artist as a response to the anti-war sentiment during the Vietnam conflict. It is an enamel etching on metal with with bright, primary colors and gold embossing. It was created around 1975. The juxtaposition of different design components of the \"doves\" skillfully and cleverly spells out the word PEACE in stylized letters.
Chaim Gross was born in Austria into a Hasidic Jewish family and later immigrated to the U.S. Initially he was a sculptor best know for his lively, naturalistic, often interlocking figure compositions. He later moved on to two-dimensional art. That complex style can be seen in \"Doves of Peace,\" as well. He is a world famous artist and his work can be found in major museums and private collections.
