DELUXE DIAMOND EDITION Contains original art by S. Eytinge. Part of the Ticknor and Fields prospectus for this set reads: \" By a special arrangement made with me and my English Publishers, (partners with me in the copyright of my works,) Messrs. TICKNOR & FIELDS, of Boston, have become the only authorized representatives in America of the whole series of my books. The Illustrations, by S. EYTINGE, JR. are remarkable for a delicate perception of beauty, a lively eye for character, a most agreeable absence of exaggeration, and a general modesty and propriety, which I greatly like. CHARLES DICKENS.\" \"This Edition of DICKENS is more complete than any other now published, containing, in addition to the writings included in any previous Edition called complete. The Uncommercial Traveller, and the later Christmas Stories, specially collected for this Edition by MR. DICKENS himself.\" This Edition is now complete in Fourteen Volumes, as follows: * The Pickwick Papers. * Our Mutual Friend. * David Copperfield. * Nicholas Nickleby. * Martin Chuzzlewit. * Dombey and Son. * Old Curiosity Shop, and Reprinted Pieces. * Little Dorrit. * Bleak House. * Barnaby Rudge, and Hard Times. * Oliver Twist, Pictures from Italy, and American Notes. * A Tale of Two Cities, and Great Expectations. * Christmas Stories, and Sketches by Boz. * The Uncommercial Traveller, and Additional Christmas Stories. Book Condition: Good - overall ranging from fair to very good; complete 14 volumes; green covers with gilt decorations to boards and title on spine. Please see pix and \"condition\" section for details. Some people consider Mr. Dickens to have slighted both Harper\'s and TB Peterson with the award of \"only authorized representatives in America of the whole series of my books\" to Ticknor, given the long standing relationship with those other publishers.. The set offered is very scarce, due in part to the fragile construction of the books. They represent the first edition illustrated by Eytinge and also the first authorized American edition of the complete works to 1867. Ticknor re-issued the set with a 15th volume in 1869.
