A life size handcarved Curlew Shorebird by Charles Spiron of North Carolina. Spiron has been a decoy maker in coastal NC for more than four decades and created thousands of decoys and shorebirds. This carving is in Atlantic White Cedar (Juniper wood) and is one piece. The primary feathers are individually carved in relief. The bill is carved separately from White Ash and is fully morticed through the head and held in place with a Walnut wedge. The carving is approximately 20\" tip to tail. After carving, the bird is painted using artist oils and Ronan pigment, and is then hand rubbed to create a soft mellow patina. A steel display stand is included with the carving.
