From 1973 through 1994 I owned a clock shop in Carmel, CA called The Timepeace. We were one of the largest retailers of Chelsea Ship\'s Clocks, and we sold a lot of their desk and mantle clocks. At one time Chelsea secured the rights to reproduce some of the early American clocks found in Colonial Williamsburg. This is one of those clocks.If you are already familiar with Chelsea Clocks, I don\'t need to tell you how beautiful they are. But some folks are new to the Chelsea mystique, so please pardon my description. Chelsea is the Rolls Royce of mechanical clock movements. They always have been. Their movements are 11 jewel masterpieces. The brass parts are gold plated--not because they work better with gold plating, but because they\'re proud of it and want it to look good. Most customers will never see the movement; they will just wind the clock once a week and look at it to see the time. But if you take the time to look in the back, you\'ll see what I\'m talking about--it\'s beautiful.This clock was used for display. It was never sold. They don\'t make it anymore. You could check with Chelsea to see if they will still warranty the movement for 5 years like they do other new clocks. You should also check with them to see if they have a replacement ring for the top, and perhaps another bezel.The clock runs perfectly and strikes the hours, not the ship\'s bells as the ship\'s clocks do. The strike is bell-like, but could be adjusted with a new leather tip to sound more gong-like. The original price sticker is still on the back, $1595.
