This is a pair of Opera Glasses by Chevalier Opticians in Paris, circa 1874. Each matching eye piece reads \"Chevalier INGB Opticien\" with bees or flies in between. I think INGB is an abbreviation for Engineer or Engineered by. They are neatly engraved in cursive on the brass front brace \"Sue M. Cushman Christmas 1874\". I found a Susan M Cushman born in 1837 living in Saginaw Michigan in 1910 who died with the married name Fogg. I also found a Susan M Cushman born in 1849 who was married to James Cushman and living in Shasta Californiaas of 1910. There is a small chip on the edge of the glass in the left eye piece, not affecting the image when used. (Theywork fine as far as across the street from my house.)There is one Mother of Pearl panel missing. I will be looking for a similar damaged pair of these I can pirate a panel from if they do not sell in the interim. Much of the brass on this pair is still shiny and bright. I have not cleaned them, they are \"as found\".
