This is a striking, superb piece standing at approx. 50cm high. It is aC19th carving of a Chinese Tang style horseman. It is an ornate yet powerful, strong sculpture. There are traces of the original gilding remaining (we have photographed this with different backgrounds, to highlight these features), and it would have presented an appearance of some status in it\'s original glory.
The rider sits astride the horse, on a saddle and cover, in rolled back robes and curl - toed footwear,with a bird on the arm. The horse is decorated with tassles hanging from straps, leading to a knotted, short tail.
