Little antique silver gilt enamel birds in brass cloisonné jardinieres like this one typically have two cranes or a pair of bluebirds. Thetype with the single peacock is rare.

This one is in very good condition for something that was likelymade before WWII. There is a small chip on one corner of the planter, minorwear commensurate with age, and the peacock’s crest is bent, but all of theenameled feathers and filigree vermeil plants and flowers are in place.

Sometimes these little figurines are hallmarked “SILVER” andsometimes they are not, (or the silver stamp is hidden by an element of thedesign.) This one is not hallmarked, or if it is, the dark green enamel “grass”obfuscates it, but it is guaranteed to be solid or sterling silver from the“ground” the peacock stands on, and everything above it. Only the little planteror pot is not silver. It is made of brass with a colorful cloisonné design.

The figurine is about 3.25 inches in length, 2.75” wide andabout 3.25 inches tall. The weight is 148 grams.

Due to the scarcity of this type of bird, this is a fivehundred dollar antique.
