This is a great Civil War era match-safe- This one is likely brass with a silver or nickle finish. It is embossed with a Union patriotic eagle motif. I have seen many of these excavated from campsites and battlefields. This one quite obviously a non-dug piece and has some gentle signs of wear but incredibly good for what it is. The spring is still very strong and the push button latch works very well. The hinge is in excellent shape. This is a great piece for the Civil War era collector.
