What an incredible image. This is the only tintype I have ever owned (or seen in person) in many years of collecting with a white man and an African American woman from the Civil War period who are obviously man and wife. This is the earliest photo of aninterracial couple I could find after extensive searches online. I only wish I knew who they were. My guess is the husband was an abolitionist and his wife a freed slave. They are both well-dressed, showing a certain level of affluence. It is also possible that the woman is Creole, as she has many of the facial characteristics.

The tintype is in good condition, matted, but without a case. The pictures are the best description...please look at them carefully, and email me with any questions BEFORE offerding. I guarantee that this is an original tintype from the Civil War era and not a cheap reproduction. Reasonable offers will be entertained, but you might want to consider the buy it now feature as I have had several interested parties already.

Most of my finds come from estate sales, sales, garage sales, or antique/flea markets. I try to do my best in accurately describing each item and indicating any flaws they may have.
