This is a standard bayonet for the Pattern 1856 Enfield short rifle. This particular bayonet is marked on the ricasso with a knights head symbol which is the symbol for Solingen Germany. On the reverse side of the blade it is marked with a crown over a 20 which is the inspectors stamp. Engraved on the pommel is the number 723 which is the Confederate shipping inventory number. It also has C.S. stamped on the inside of the locking mechanism that I have taken a pic of. It also has the double broad arrows facing each other with WD stamped on the scabbard which is also pictured. The blade and pommel has an even pleasing grey patina that is expected for the age of the blade. No rust spots present just age pitting. The scabbard is in good condition with expected age flaking on the leather but no bends or breaks. The metal portions of scabbard do have age pitting and are a little loose but staples are still firmly attached to leather.
