A Confederate War Bond for 100 dollars, dated July 30 1864 and redeemable in July 1884. The document is in fair condition. It has been creased and folded into thirds (as is typical for documents from this time period). An illustration of the Confederate ironclad battleship Merrimack ramming and sinking Union ships is present. Signed by the Confederate Register of the Treasury, Robert Tyler.
Robert Tyler was the son of President John Tyler, the 10th President of the United States who served from 1841-45 after William Henry Harrison died. Before his service for the Confederate government, he was a personal secretary to the President of the United States during his father\'s administration. His wife Priscilla served as the unofficial First Lady of the United States after John Tyler was widowed while in office, and before he remarried.
