You\'re looking at about 3/4 of one of my favorites of the year, all by hand in even, small stitching, measures 69\" x 84\", from the Dark Corners area of Greenville County, S.C. (and Polk County, N.C.), rather infamous during prohibition days because it\'s a \"you can\'t get there from here\" sort of place, in a densely forested and mountainous area with few roads, with reputation of \"more stills per square mile than anyplace in the Carolinas\", giving the revenue gang serious headaches. But among the good things that have come from the area are some strong quilts, this being one, made about 1930, and proving cotton also makes beautiful \"contained crazy\" quilts. Comprised of 42 blocks with blue as the predominant color, although the whole thing is a virtual kaleidoscope of colors and shapes; all sashing is in blue with white flowers and all connectors are a red and white small stripes fabric. Quilt has about 1-2\" border all around. See above for item condition (in a word, couldn\'t be better). Last pic shows the back which is a red and purple striped fabric. Quilt is not lumpy, is not a thick quilt. It\'s also very soft. To see it is to love it. Thank you for looking at another fine piece of folk art from the American South.
