No marks of any kind - assume Continental, the silver tests at least 800 or coin - possibly as much as 925 or sterling. The base is in a heart shape, slightly domed and the hinged silver clip unit is screwed into the base - two 1/4 inch cracks inside the base and one old smooth indent on the edge, otherwise excellent functional useable condition. Measures 4 1/4 x 4 1/4 x 2 1/4 inches and weighs approximately 4.4 ounces. The openwork clip is reminiscent of austro Hungarian pieces of the period - crest renaissance revival style with scrollwork and two mermaid figures. Probably originally part of a full desk writing set. Absolutely beautiful!
