Cranberry Glass Compote or center bowl, American Art Glass

7.5 inches high, oval 8 by 13.5 inches across the handles.Seahorse handles and seaweed around the stem in light green. Quality hand crafted with folded rim, mouth blown. Light weight for such a large piece (2 lb 10 oz). The prior owner said it was American made.Condition: Looks like a pontil scar inside the bowl. It could have had a flower frog or an epergne with bud vases. There are traces of gold on the green glass.Research notes from my friend, Susan:
From the book, Nineteenth Century Glass by Albert Christian Revi, chapter called: Applied Glass House Decoration. It mentions glasshouse patents in the mid 1880s by John Northwood, Stevens & Williams, William Watson, Hobbs, Brockunier & Co. for applying decorations. Some were in West Virginia. \"The late 19th century glassmakers utilized all the known techniques to satisfy the taste for elaborately decorated glassware\". Safe to say this is 1885-1895.
