Up for sale is a natural gold in rich quartz ore specimen found at the McLaughlin Mine of Napa County, California. Description: The specimen measures approximately 72mm x 40mm x 28mm (3" x 1.25" x 1").Gold crystals cover two areas of the quartz. The largest area covered by a sheet of visible gold is about 7mm x 3mm, with an area about 20mm x 15mm covered by smaller gold crystals. Also, marcasite veins (similar to pyrite in appearance) run through mudstone attached to the quartz.The McLaughlin Mine is one of California's more recent productive mines, becoming active in the 1980s. Quality display specimens are uncommon, as the ore is generally lower-grade.Condition: Good and ready to display. Note that one side has glue residue from mounting (see photo #4).
