Published by Jones Brothers Publishing, Cincinnati, OH, U.S.A., 1885. All three books are in hard cover binding with gold and black lettering on dark green cloth. Book condition is very good: some bumping to corners and top and bottom of spine. There is a bit of white residue on one corner of Vol III. Otherwise bindings are tight and pages are clean. This is the original edition. From the title page: ”Being an Account of the Principal Events in the Career of the Human Race from the Beginnings of Civilization to the Present Time from recent and authentic Sources”. The books are profusely illustrated with maps, charts, sketches, portraits and diagrams. Tissue guards protect some of the more important illustrations.
This set of books reads like a well written novel: Ridpath has an eye for the violent nature of history and seems to describe it with great detail. A lot of the engravings are selected to display this aspect.
