DANIEL CORIZ STERLING MOSAIC INLAY CROSS PENDENT
Daniel Coriz, Santa Domingo Pueblo Naive Amerian artist silversmith born in 1964 resides in the pueblo of Santo Domingo in New Mexico. Master of the unique style of mosaic inlay jewelry technique and has work on display at the Smithsonian Institute.
This cross pendant has a total length with the bale of 4 1/8 inches. The cross itself with the attached loop is 3 1/8 inches. The extra large bale can accommodate strands of beads or a large chain and is 1 inch with an opening of 1/2 inch. The bale has 3 sun or flower engravings, 1 in the front, 1 on the top and 1 on the bak. The widest point on the cross is 1 1/2 inches. Highly reflective back surface as you can see from the reflection in the photo.
Beautiful inlay of turquoise, red spiny oyster tiny stripes of mother of pearl inlaid on black jet. Heavy silver mounting and it weighs 1.14 troy ounces or 38 grams. Three silver balls in each corner of the cross. Hallmarked on the back D. Coriz in script and stamped STERLING underneath a stylized thunderbird. A very unique piece of jewelry.
Thee is a tiny hairline crack that you can feel with your finger that is almost impossible to photograph. It is on the photo of the lower half of the cross if you can focus on it from the lower right corner of the lower left red rectangle to the top corner of the rectangle across from it. There are some tiny scratches from use on the surface and on the silver and it could use a professional polishing. It has been hand polished only to remove tarnish. You need a jewelers loupe to see the scratches and they are not evident unless on close inspection but they are there. There is a tiny ding on the right bottom siver mounting that is small and would polish flat. The bale is secure on the top loop on the cross and cannot be removed.
