VERY SHOWY! Fully Brass Bound DOUBLEArch Joint Wide Format Two Foot Four Fold Boxwood Rule by important early American maker Hermon Chapin. The \"H. Chapin\" mark found on this rule dates from 1834 to 1860! TheSUPER DELUXE No. 32 Model likely dates to the latter part of that time period.

FINE Vintage condition with no consequential damage of any sort. Even after 150 plus years, all of the joints remain surprisingly tight and there is very little corner and almost no edge rounding. The graduations and hand stamped numerals are all well done and remain reasonably strong and clear. \"No32 H.Chapin U.S.Standard\" is stamped in small type across the face of the rule.Thealignment pins were removed whenthe rule was new (to keep them from scratching the surfaces being measured) and there is no \"wallowing\" in their receptor holes. All of the sections of the rule are straight and fairly well aligned. There isno significant springing. The boxwood has a wonderful \"mellow yellow\" patina with the original finish continuing to provide full coverage. \"Toolbox\" dinging and scratching is minimal. And as you can see in the detailed photos, there is almost no staining. The brass has NOT been polished and has acquired that lovely deep patina that can come only from a century or more of benign neglect.

A SPECTACULAR old rule in FINE Vintage condition. And an \"antique\" for sure. Stanley was probably not even in business when it was made! This \"show off\" rule was no doubt intended as a presentation piece and it will pleasetoday\'s discerning connoisseur as muchas it might have pleased President Lincoln in his day. A truly wonderful old rule that will make a great addition to any tool or rule collection. Don\'t get sniped!
