KINGZ CARNIVAL GLASS

COME BY ~ COME BUY ~ COME BACK

American glass makers began producing what has become known as CARNIVAL GLASS in 1907, when FENTON introduced to America, a low-cost process of spraying hot glass with mixtures of metallic salts (potassium dichromate, cobalt nitrate, copper sulfate, etc.), to produce on the exterior a multi-color iridescent effect similar to what Tiffany and Steuben were able to create within their glass, at considerable expense. Unless otherwise noted, Carnival Glass listed here is approximately 100 years old and will have certainflaws and imperfectionswhich do not exist in today's glassware; air bubbles, inclusions (ash, cinder), straw marks (shear marks), tool marks, incomplete or malformed edges, legs of differing lengths, worn iridescence - missing iridescence - pooled iridescence, heat checks (internal fissures from uneven cooling); rough seams, extra glass at seams, webbing between edge points...etc.

BE PREPARED FOR THE REALITY OF ANTIQUE GLASSWARE.

IRIDESCENCE IS ALL ABOUT LIGHTING

GREAT LIGHTING = GREAT COLOR

WHITE, SMOKE, MARIGOLD & ICE COLORS REQUIRE DARK BACKGROUNDS

FOR THE BEST EXHIBITION OF THEIR IRIDESCENCE

"DUTCH PLATE"

aka

"WINDMILL & CHECKERBOARD"

HAZEL ATLAS

I don't think the maker of this 8" Plate is known, but its design is very similar to the Hazel-Atlas pattern called "Checkers".

The iridescence is a pale, silvery amber.
