Half-plate daguerreotype of a family group, circa 1851.
Pad is marked, \"J.P. Ball, Artist, Cincinnati\".. name is
a bit worn and slightly hard to read, but I 100% guarantee
that the pad is stamped as quoted above.James Presley Ball was a pioneering African American photographer
who was born in Virginia and learned the daguerrean trade from
another African-American in Boston, John Bailey. He moved to
Cincinnati in 1845, having a very successful career there
until the 1870s.

Daguerreotype comes in its full, original leather case and its
original seals intact! The underside of the glass is a little
dirty, but having its original seals, there is NO damage. Condition notes: As stated, the dag is undamaged. The case has
minor wear, and the covers are separated along the spine.
Case is 6\" x 4.75\" closed.
