The wooden storage compartment is approximately 19\" long X 19\" wide X 3\" tall. Each square measures 1-7/8\" x 1-7/8\". The Chess Set weighs 18 lbs 10 oz. Since I did not use the chess set, it has been stored in my linen closet with the chess pieces kept in the storage compartment. It is in near mint condition. There are two blemish markson thechessboard. One blemish has been there since I purchased it. There are no repairs, no chips, no missing crystal balls, and no missing chess pieces. Each chess piece contains the original crystal ball. The original shipping box is no longer available. However, it will be securely packed with generous amounts of shipping material ensuring safe delivery to your door step. The Story Book is included with this purchase.
