MID-CENTURY DANISH MODERN COLLECTIBLE PITCHER
This striking black and white Danishceramic pitcher was created by Edith Nielsen, Denmark.It is a glazedterra-cotta piece in EXCELLENT condition with no known flaws.The inside of thispitcher is glazed with a pristine grey-white glaze, itapparently has never been used.The capacity is 2.5 cups U.S.The finish on this pitcher is VERY unique! The background has an ultra-fine grainy textured effect,almost like it was finely sand blasted before the shiny glaze was added. If you look up close, like with a magnifying glass,it is almost like you can see the red clay showing through, which gives it a textured look, almost like a hare\'s fur effect.Itis a midcentury piece,circa 1960\'s.Matching teapot and sugar/creamer also available. HISTORY:Edith Nielsen was the primary designer for Zeuthen Keramik in the 1950\'s.Zeuthen Keramik began as Nordisk Brugskunst (Nordic Applied Art) in 1946, when it was founded byNormann Zeuthen.In 1948, the pottery\'s name was changed to Zeuthen Keramik. It was quite alarge pottery with 10-15 employees.Edith Nielsen had much to do with Zeuthen\'s success. She later went on to open her own ceramic studio, where this pitcher was created.Even though this is not a Zeuthen product, it was created by the primary Zeuthen designer and so I think this quote applies:In researching Zeuthen Keramik,I came across a tip attributed to an antique expert. This tip was:
\"IF YOU SEE ZEUTHEN, BUY IT! IT WON\'T LOSE ITS VALUE\"
