Dapper Joe 1920s Vtg Bert Cobb Pencil Signed Colored Dog Etching English Pointer:
$125.00

You\'re offerding on a nice colored dog portrait etching - \"Dapper Joe\" - double-signed within the impression and in pencil at bottom right and titled at bottom left by the artist, Bert Cobb. Albert \"Bert\" Cobb (1869-1936) was a prolific cartoonist and commercial artist, particularly known for his sheet music cover art - later in life he shifted into a second career as a drypoint etcher of dog portraits. Many of these works were commissioned by the well-to-do, of their prize winning purebreds and hunting dogs, and these works have become prized and collectible. This is a nice example - the real Dapper Joe appears in a 1923 edition of \"The Field Dog Stud Book\" as a prize Pointer, ready to breed.
Note that this piece appears to be in its original framing - total size 19\" X 16 1/2\" and I have not examined it outside of frame. Print appears to be reasonably clean and appealing with some mild but unobtrusive age tone. There are a few bits of debris that have slipped between the glass and print and visible within the matting. Nice wooden frame with gilded inner edge and antique glass.
Mass-produced editions of these prints are fairly easy to come by, but a pencil-signed Cobb artist\'s impression is an unusual find. Please review photos carefully to make your own determination of overall condition and appeal, and don\'t hesitate to ask any questions prior to offerding - thanks for looking!
