This David Winter Cottage,St. Anne's Well, was introduced in 1990 and retired in 1995. It was hand-made and hand-painted in the studios and workshops of John Hine. It measures: 4-1/4" x 3-1/4" x 4-5/8". A Certificate of Authenticity is included in the original box. It is in pristine condition.
This is part of the BRITISH TRADITIONS SERIES, MONTH OF JULY. The tradition of decorating the village well goes back centuries and is kept alive especially in the Midland county of Derbyshire. In July, many villages reveal their well dressings - complex pictorial mosaics made from flower heads pressed onto clay backgrounds, built up over several days by whole teams. St. Anne is the patron saint of wells and this is David Winter's interpretation of this custom.
