19th century harp by Dodd, 92 St. Martin\'s Lane London #99

The harp has a beautiful silhouette and a black painted surface, black paint worn in some areas. Highlighted with gilt over gessoand a hand painted running floral motif along the entire inner flattapering back diagonal upright. This painted floral decoration is in very nice condition. Two of the three ram\'s head gilt ornaments are present. One foot pedal absent. There are remains of old stringing throughout. Missing elements of gesso in various areasand the gilt base with recumbent lions. Solid brass plate engraved with maker\'s name, location and #99. One of the metal pegs running above the brass plate had slipped out, though I do have it. It is not missing. In as found, unrestoredcondition. Measures approximately 65-1/4\" tall, approximately 38\" across the top diagonal section. I believe the harp dates from the second quarter of the 19th century.

Please use the zoom capability on my listing page to enlarge details for viewing.

The harp is located in Long Island, New York. A beautiful example of 19th century English harpmaking.
