Early 1890s cabinet card photo of Jules-Emile Pean (1830 - 1898), who was one of the great French surgeons of the 19th century. He is considered one of the founders of modern gynecology. Pean was so famous in his homeland for his advances in gynecological surgery and other innovations that Henri Toulouse-Lautrec painted the surgeon\'s portrait. The Pean hemostat is named after him. Photographer is Reutlinger out of Paris.
