Antique Elgin Pocket Watch mounted in Dueber Special Case.

This recent estate find is an antique Elgin Pocket Watch mounted in a great little Dueber Special 25 Year Gold Filled Case.

The case is small, sized to fit the size 3/0 movement, but charms with the attractive exterior design that remains in great shape, showing less wear than expected for its age.

Mounted inside is an Elgin grade 464 movement from 1919. It has 15 jewels, and is a size 3/0 mechanical movement, powered by hand winding.

The movement is serial number 21019132, and is part of a batch of 2000. It is designed for a full hunting case (as found here) and has the time adjusted via the pendant.

The watch weighs 31.8 grams. Actual dimensions as measured are:

Diameter: 33.6 mm.
Height - top of stem to bottom of watch: 42.1 mm.
Thickness: 10.0 mm.

Observations: The stem is quite tight and pulling it up, to enter the time setting mode, took more effort than most. The crystal is missing over the face, but the bezel is there.

Condition: The watch winds and runs. After fully winding it and setting the time, it is still showing the correct time some 20 hours later. As an antique timepiece, we do not guarantee continued operation, and it is offered in as-is condition. Its maintenance history is unknown, and we recommend inspection and routine maintenance (oiling and cleaning) at the earliest opportunity.

Physically, the watch is in very good condition. The case really presents well and has less wear than expected. No dings or dents are seen and hinges and latches work fine. The crystal is missing, but the face is in good shape, with some light areas of soil. The movement is clean and in good shape.
