EARLY 1700\'s ANTIQUE SOLID OAK CHEST TRUNK COFFER:

Thisantique solid oak chest/trunk/coffer came into our family when it was purchasedfrom an antique store in Summerland, California back in the mid 1980\'s.It was sold to us with the provenance that it is from the early 1700\'s and wasa ship captain\'s chest/trunk/coffer and was from England. Condition as shownin the pictures is as we received it and it has been well cared for since itcame into our hands. It has the original hand forged iron hardware anddoes have the original working lock and key. The construction is withwood pegs and the main box is made with one piece oak planks, with the frontand side decorations placed over that. This piece is very solid and well made and has no loose joints. Overall dimensions of this pieceare: approximately 48\" long, by approximately 24\" deep, byapproximately 24\" high. Considering that the planks used in thispiece are all straight grain with no knots, it is quite possible the tree thewood came from was very old itself. Please review the pictures for moredetails.
