One of my favorite Farm Estate “Attic” finds from here inIndiana!

A very early model Singer 401A , serial number NA683092.

In very good working condition.

From the serialnumber; Singer Sewing Company’s website dates this to machine to 1951, makingher a very early model at a respectable 66 years old. (I will also include atno additional cost a printed certificate on nice paper stock from the Singer Sewing Company that showsserial number NA683092 was issued in 1951 with the new owners name displayed)

With the exception of the light bulb missing; fromeverything I can see of this fine machine, it’s in incredible shape for its age!Before attempting to power her up, I carefully inspected the internal mechanism, wiring, foot peddle and power cord and am happy to say thatall are in excellent condition. It powers up nicely and it operates smoothly. I also had a friend with knowledge of this machine model teach me how to thread and sew with it to verify the working condition.

Included is everything seen in my pictures; the sewing machine, original Maple hard wood type interior with solid Brass side locks(case alonesells for $50.00 on) the bakelite foot peddle and power cord are both in excellent condition. (they sell alone for $40.00 on )

Also included are a some additional Singer Sewing items that were also purchased at the same Farm Estate sale. (Please see last picture) I don\'t know if they are for this specific sewing machine but will include them as well.

I was also able to get a copy of the originalusers manual for this model and will includeit on a flashdrive for the new owner.

Withthe assistance of one of ’s prominent SingerSewing Machine experts Mr. Richard B; I have found new information on the muchvenerated Singer Model 401A that I would like to share.Richard explained that there is very little productionrecords from 1952 to 1963 and feels this sewing machine was actually made in 1956. Richard stated that \"NA\" serial numbers beganin 1951 endingin 1956, \"NB\" serial numbers began in 1956\" and “NC\" serialnumbers began in 1961. Based on the actual serial number Richard feels that a manufactures date of 1956 is probable more accurate. While Richards’s serial number information conflictswith the Singer website, he was very gracious with his time and knowledge. Thatsaid, I thought it important to include Richards information and thank him forall his assistance.
