Early Victorian 10 karat gold hair memorial necklace with two fine rope-woven hair choker cords. The piece weighs 6.5 pennyweights gross and measures approximately 16 inches long and the hair weave clasp pendant measures 1 inch across by 7/8 inch high by 3/16 inch deep. The necklace is not marked. Hand engraved in script on the back of the clasp body \"MAC\". Some of the links of the short chains joining the hair cords to the locket/clasp body are additions or replacements. There are some extremely fine general surface scratches to the clasp body, an old filing and some staining of the side edge of the body with nearby evidence of dark solder along the joint of side wall to cap and back (which seems to us to be original but may be an old, very successful repair) and scattered general fine abrasions to the crystal surface, otherwise in good antique condition with well preserved hair elements.
