EXCELLENT VICTORIAN WHITE COTTON SPOON BONNET – EARLY 1860’S:

This is an adorableall original spoon bonnet that would have made such a heavenly appearance whenworn by a young maiden during the early 1860’s.

This bonnetis shallow with a high peaked crown or brim.It has a curtain at the back and ties under the chin.

The bonnet ismade entirely of white cotton. The brimis shirred and drawn on four wires, then the outer edge is trimmed with alovely handmade lace. The innerdecoration consists of two rows of additional delicate net lace and ribbon.

The back ofthe bonnet is decorated with very delicate tucking. The curtain or skirt of the bonnet is gatheredand attached to the back bottom of the bonnet with covered wire. The bottom of the skirt is decorated withhandmade lace matching the outer brim.

A large bowmade of cotton adorns the top of the bonnet, of which the bottom edge istrimmed with matching lace.

This bonnetis in excellent condition, with the exception of a few flea bites on both ofthe ties (This is shown in the picture of the ties). It has been hand washed and came out abeautiful pure white.
