This sale is for an exceptional handmade antique 19th century silk velvet textile fragment which is the salvaged peplum of a damaged bodice of the Victorian era. This velvet is of the utmost quality, has a luxurious texture and its color is a rich merlot wine (very dark).....it has a very high silk fiber content with a cotton base....it is of all natural fibers with no synthetic content. It has two beautiful, hard-to-find etched brass metal ball buttons which have a great patina which measure approximately 7/16\" in diameter.
One can take this apart and use it for doll clothing.....although it is not super, flimsy thin, it is very pliable (even more so with lining removed) and would be very suitable for doll clothing - bodices or embellishment of one, hats, etc. It should be noted that this type of velvet is also hard to come by. Mostly all of the velvet textiles which I am presently selling in sale are from my personal collection......this is authentic velvet of the earlier era and I believe one will love it. It is being sold \"AS IS\". It may have some age-inherent wear at the bottom edge where it has been folded (hemline - 1 3/4\"). There are no major rips, tears or stains, deterioration or brittleness....it is simply luxuriously soft to the touch....totally hand-sewn. If one chooses to use it for fabric, here are detailed measurements.
If measured all around top edge, it is 7\";all around bottom edge it is approximately 23.5\".....there are two seam-lines at the 6.5\" and 12.5\" mark (see Photo 5).....measuring from top-to-bottom edge throughout it measures approximately 5\" from one end - 5 1/4\" - 5.5\" - 5 1/4\" - 3.5\" at shortest end......This is being sold \"AS IS\".
