MAGNIFICENT ANTIQUE SINO TIBETAN CAST IRONBUDDHA ALTAR STATUE

ExquisiteSino Tibetan cast iron statue ofthe seated Buddhaupon a highly detailed lotus throne. Seatedin the padmasana pose upon a beautiful double lotus, clad in a flowingdhoti,with a face displaying great serenity. The piece is well cast, with great attention to detail. Tightly curled hair pulled up into a topknot, a bindi between the eyebrows, downward cast eyes, all carefully rendered.The entirety of all the imageryexhibits great strength, yet is peaceful.The statuemeasures approximately 7 1/8\" high and is quite heavy. In excellent antique condition with just scattered wear and soiling commensurate with age, bearing a sublime, rich patina.When turned upside down, we notice that there is something rattling inside, as if there is a hidden compartment. We also note old remnants of sealing wax an the lower reverse, as the Chinese utilized for antiques export in the first half of the last century. We have conservatively dated it to the early 1900s, however it could be older. Sublime from any angle, thistasteful statue would have once been displayed in a temple or upon a home altar.An outstanding centerpiece for thecollector of fine Tibetan antiques.
