One of a kind and a rare treasure. A prize for the collector. Genuine antique Hawaiian hummingbird feather flower. In the original lined presentation box. Dates to the 1850s or 1860s Victorian era, and is very well preserved. An astounding example of feather work. Beautiful hummingbird feathers in rich colors of greens, and more.. The iridescent feathers on each \"petal\" literally glow like fire in glimmering lava orange colors. The colors change and intensify as the light changes direction (each peal has all its vivid iridescent feathers, in some photos they do not show due to the light\'s direction but change the direction of the light and the glow like fire. A wrapped stem, and n back is a tiny piece of skin or perhaps plant fibers. Completely hand made, a masterful example of this type of feather art. Still in its handsome original presentation box of green jacquard with a gilded metal closure. I purchased this over 20 years ago from a gentleman in Hawaii who was the executor of a large estate, whose ancestors had come to Hawaii in the 1830s and 1840s. He sold me this, along with 2 feather work hatbands, and several early Victorian bonnets and some exotic feathers I sold them all off, but have kept this one for myself. time to let it go to a new home. The entire feather flower measures approx 6\" long with the shimmering top petal portion 2 3/4\" in diameter. . Box is 8 1/2\" by 6\" by 2\" high.
