Offered for sale is an oval heavy silver plated vanity tray or plateau marked Reed and Barton. Oval plateaus are less common than round ones and this is exceptional! Plateaus were extremely popular and served a variety of purposes such as resting perfume bottles on. Perfume can damage the finish on wood furniture, so plateaus served an important function. They were also used to place dining table centerpieces on, such as epergnes or vases which may hold liquids. Again, they were used to protect the table finish and their mirrored tops beautifully reflected cut glass and silver. The beveled glass top is original and in excellent condition. The wide silver frame has a deep ornate repousse design along its edge of scrolls, vines and flowers. The tray rests on ornate, flared feet. The silvering and frame are also in excellent condition. It is marked Reed & Barton 188 on one foot. 2.25\"h X 14.5\"w X 10.5\"d, Condition: Excellent, Circa: 1900.
