FREE SHIPPING ANYWHERE IN THE CONTINENTAL US! This is a wonderful antique French painting. Early 1800s. Oil on oval canvas. Painting itself measures 21 1/4\" x 17 3/4\". It is displayed in a vintage gilt wood mat/frame measuring 26 3/4\" x 23 1/4\". The portrait depicts a fine handsome young man in dress clothes and bow tie. To me, he appears to be in his early teens. He has classic features with mysterious almond eyes, rosy cheeks, and a subtle smile. The portrait is obviously well executed by what must have been a very accomplished painter. I do not see a signature, although there is a red mark over one of the boy\'s shoulders which appears to continue beneath the matting of the frame, and may reveal a signature.

Condition: I do not have a black light, so I can\'t tell whether this painting has had any restoration work. It appears to be in very good overall condition for its age, so I would assume there has been some work done to it along the way. The frame, which is not original to the painting, has some loss to the gilding, as you can see in the photos. There is also a crack to the bottom left portion of the matting of the frame, which is similar to the one located to the top left portion of the matting, which you can see in the next to last photo. Really a stunning portrait.

I also have the receipt from a doctor from Worcester, Mass., who purchased the painting in Vermont, which is where he also purchased the frame to display it in. It was purchased in 1966. I blacked out the name of the owner to protect his privacy and that of his family.
