DESCRIPTION:Early 20th Century nautical ships lantern globe (red) with a metaltop. It measures about 9 ¼ inches tall and has a base diameter ofabout 7 ½ inches and weighs about 8 pounds. The vented top appearsto be tin and it has a greenish patina or paint on it that has somewear. Not sure if the top was the original but it looks old as wellbut does not have much soot on the underside. The bottom edge of theglobe has many tiny surface chips from removing and replacing globeto service the oil lamp and from normal wear and tear. Red glass fromthis period was typically made with some real gold in order to obtainthe color. The globe was most likely off a ship from the northern NewEngland area but not sure if it was off a fresh water or ocean goingvessel. This is a nice heavy red glass nautical collectible.
