Time to change the tune!! This is an important American sword--the first from a small collection of early edged weapons which I will be offering on . Total length is 37-1/4\". Blade measures 32\", and is blued with engraved designs which are highlighted with a gilt wash. The designs on one side include an American eagle with shield, and a banner reading \"E. PLURIBUS UNUM.\" The other side has an engraved design of several pikes or spears stacked together, with two drums and a Liberty cap ontop of one pike. There are also two engraved ribbon bands reading \"J.G. DYER\" and \"BOSTON\" which I assume was the maker or assembler.The blade has a false upper edge extending approx. 9\" back from the tip. There is also a shallow groove or fuller running from the guard the length of the blade and ending 1/2\" from the tip. This sword is 100% original and has never been apart, although the guard and handle are a little bit loose. It comes with its original black leather scabbard with gilded brass mounts which amazingly is complete and in one piece!! The closest match I can find for this sword is #66 in Harold Peterson\'s book, although the guard is slightly different. The blade has a couple of little rust spots, rust near the guard, and one small nick--apparently from another sword.
