Rare Antique Dutch/FlemishCandlestick

from around 1550

This candlestick was possibly made in Dinant, Flanders in the 16th century.The flaring candle cup is an influence fom the Gothic period.

The candle cup hasa horizontal rectangular extracting hole onone lowerportion of the candle cup.

The straight stem is magnificently decorated withbalusters, knops, a balland some rings around the shaft that are interrupted byone nicely turned inverse baluster or teardrop with ridged decorations. The stick consists of two parts, the foot and the stem. The stemis peenedtightly into the base. The underside of the base shows traces of silvering.

The foot mayhave functioned as a drip tray since it has a slightly elevated edge. Thewide foot also has slightly turned and ridged decorations.

This is adesirable candlestick for the discriminating collector.

The candlestickis about8.25 inches tall and has a base of about6 inches in diameter. It weighs about 2 pounds.

The candlestickis in excellent condition forits age. It exhibits normal wear and tear and there are no damages as evident in the photographs.
