Antique Milliner\'s Model - Original Arms, Legs, Kid Leather Body, Blue \'Tape\', Apollo Knot...Absolutely Lovely!
This is an extraordinary 14 inch milliner\'s model.There are so many attributes. For example, she has hand carved fingers (5) - rarely do they have each finger so well defined. Also she has very sweet face with warm brown eyes. Her hair is in the charming Apollo knot style - which is also more rare. She wears delicate green slippers. Her body has been reinforced with kid leather - some on her torso and some at her knees; however, she is very stable - not the least bit fragile. There is some minor paint loss on her hair (see pictures). I would say she was made circa 1840. Her apricot-colored dress is also of that era. It is all hand sewn. It is made of a light wool and linen fabric with (what I think is) a cotton cream-colored binding around the bodice and the sleeves. The close-up of the inside of her skirt doesn\'t show it to be apricot in color- but it is. There are hand sewn tucks around her \'rib cage\'. This dress was not her original dress because on the back where there are metalclasps and hand sewn attachments for the clasps, she now has ribbons keeping her dress snug. Her dress has many\'thin\' areas and some actual holes about the size of an eraser, also there are some tinyareas of discoloration - however, it is still beautifulfor a dress of this age - it\'s in good shape (see pictures).There are a number of cracks on her bust; some look as if they have had some early repairs. However,the bustis very stable. She has a nose rub. She has a heavy cotton underdress (see picture).I think sheisquite \'regal\' and would be a wonderful addition to any collection.
