ITEM DESCRIPTION: FRESH ESTATE FIND...... This sale is for a fine, early salt glazed stoneware crock with vibrant cobalt blue feathered floral decoration on both sides, as well as cobalt decoration under the applied ears/handles. It dates to the 1860\'s or so, and came from a local Maryland estate (unsure as to where it was originally made; it is unsigned). This is a HUGE, 6 gallon crock. It is incised \"6\" under one handle, and also near the top on one side. I love the significant kiln warp present on this massive crock. It measures 11 3/4\" across the top rim in one area, and measures 10\" across the rim in another region. It stands 14 3/4\" tall, and weighs over 20 pounds. It is in very good condition with no significant damage or repairs (no cracks). There are 2 small, shallow inner rim chips, one larger, shallow chip to the underside, and one chip under one handle. See the 6th and last 2 photos for close-ups. It has the intrinsic kiln warp already mentioned, some faint \"drippy\" exterior staining, and a few clay irregularities. This all just adds to this unique crock\'s personality. It displays wonderfully.
