C.G. Conn was founded in 1876 inElkhart Indiana. This device is fitted into the bell of a trumpet orcoronet to affect the tone & volume. It could date to the1880\'s. It is 4 1/4” long and weighs 2.5 oz. The metal is notmagnetic and appears to have some silver content. The end cap hasdents and dings. See pics.
