Early Primitive Hide Covered Dome Top Document Box Brass Tacks ca 1830 Antique :

This is a nice early 19th century document box in hide covering and brass tacks. It has a dome top and what appears to be the original paper lining and fabric hinge straps. Opens and closes well but does not snap tight. The lock mechanism appears to be later, perhaps 1870 era. There is a marked patent date 1869 on the face plate of the key hole. All other hardware appears original. The bottom features square nails. Brass tacks are present throughout but several are missing on the top (please see photos).
Size measures : 15\" long x 8\" deep x 7\" tall.
